Two die after showing COVID-19 symptoms, tension prevails in Sukma

Death of two villagers having symptoms of COVID-19 resulted in mild tensions in the Sukma district of Chhattisgarh. The deceased Vaiti Hadma (22) and Podiyam Bhima (30) hailed from Kottacheru village of the district, were suffering from fever, cold and cough for the last few days.

Sukma:Tension prevailed in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh after two villagers died within 24 hours in the area, after suffering from fever, cold and cough, an official said on Tuesday.

The deceased identified as Vaiti Hadma (22) and Podiyam Bhima (30) hailed from Kottacheru village of the district, were suffering from fever, cold and cough for the last few days.

As per reports, 22 villagers including Bhima, had returned to the village from Andhra Pradesh a day before the lockdown. Three weeks after their return to the village, Bhima started complaining of vomiting, fever and headache. Following which, on the morning of April 20, he died, after his health deteriorated. Bhima died hours after the death of Hadma on April 19, who died from symptoms similar to those of the former.

Upon receiving the information, the health department reached the village to ascertain the cause of the death, as it was being opined that the duo died of COVID-19 which is currently spreading in the country. Investigation revealed that the villagers did not die from COVID-19.

Following which, the team set up a medical camp in the village and distributed essential medicines among the villagers.

As per reports, villagers who complained of cold, cough and fever were brought to Konta and have been kept at a quarantine facility as a precautionary measure.

Konta SDM Himanchal Sahu, said, "The health department team was sent upon receiving the news of the death of two villagers, who died after showing COVID-19 symptoms. Investigation revealed that none of them died of COVID-19."
