Kulhadi Ghat: Dining with the Prime Minister of the country is considered a once in a lifetime opportunity and not everyone gets a chance to do so. But, a woman named Baldi bai in Kulhadi ghat village of Chhattisgarh was fortunate enough to get this chance.
It was in the year 1985 when Rajiv Gandhi was the Prime Minister of the country and visited the Kulhadi ghat village where Baldi bai got the opportunity to feed him and his wife Sonia Gandhi. But sadly feeding the Prime Minister did not change Baldi bai's fate.
Her husband and son died due to poverty and she still strives for a living by weaving bamboo baskets. Also known as the 'poster lady', Baldi bai is in the late stages of her life but still does not have a proper house. In spite of several government welfare schemes, the woman is bound to live in a shack made of straw and mud.
It is not that the local leaders are unaware of it but reasonably it is the custom of politics and politicians that they can only sympathise with the deprived by embracing them but lack behind in providing them with the needful.
