Swadeshi rakhis for Raksha Bandhan this year

Janani Mahila Samuh group aims to make 10,000 Made-in-India rakhis for Rakhsha Bandhan 2020 to boycott Chinese goods and make India self-reliant. The move comes in the wake of PM Modi's 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' call after a violent face-off with China at Galwan Valley in eastern Ladakh in which 20 Indian Army personnel got martyred.

Korba (Chhattisgarh): Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call to make India 'atmanirbhar' (self-reliant), a group of women in Chhattisgarh's Korba has started making rakhis for the upcoming festival of Raksha Bandhan, to be celebrated on August 3. The group of almost 25 women are making rakhis using grains, bamboo, and other natural materials that are easily available in their villages.

An effort to boycott rakhis imported from China:

"We want our brothers to wear rakhis made in India," said one of the women working with the group. She said that the exercise has proved beneficial for all the group members as the women have now become more self-reliant and do not have to ask for money from their husbands.

Aims to make 10,000 rakhis for 2020 Raksha Bandhan:

"To do something for our country, state and brothers we came up with the idea of making rakhis. We also make decorative items for homes and offices to expand the business. The group has been given a target to prepare ten thousand rakhis for this festive season," she added.

Face masks and hand sanitisers to fight COVID-19:

Known as 'Janani Mahila Samuh', the group also prepare face masks and hand sanitisers to help the nation to fight the battle against the coronavirus pandemic.
