Korba (Chhattisgarh): Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call to make India 'atmanirbhar' (self-reliant), a group of women in Chhattisgarh's Korba has started making rakhis for the upcoming festival of Raksha Bandhan, to be celebrated on August 3. The group of almost 25 women are making rakhis using grains, bamboo, and other natural materials that are easily available in their villages.
An effort to boycott rakhis imported from China:
"We want our brothers to wear rakhis made in India," said one of the women working with the group. She said that the exercise has proved beneficial for all the group members as the women have now become more self-reliant and do not have to ask for money from their husbands.
