Bolero-truck head-on collision on way to attend wedding in Balod Balod:Eleven persons who were heading for a wedding ceremony were killed after the Bolero they were travelling was hit head-on by a speeding truck, near Balodgahan in Chhattisgarh's Balod district on National Highway 30, on Wednesday night, officials said.
The accident occurred at around 9.30 pm and ten died on the spot while a girl child rescued alive from the mangled vehicle succumbed to the injuries later in the hospital.Police said the deceased include five women and two children who were aboard the Bolero. The truck driver has fled the scene abandoning the vehicle.
Police said the deceased were all from the same family who hail from Sorem village in Dhamtari district. "They were on their way to Markatola in Kanker, where they were supposed to join a wedding ceremony. Efforts are underway to establish the individual identities of the deceased," police said. Balod District Superintendent of Police Jitendra Kumar Yadav said that a special team has been formed to probe the incident.
The accident occurred when the Bolero was passing by Jagtra and the Bolero was completely mangled. The passersby alerted the police and the injured was rushed to a hospital in the vicinity before being referred to Raipur hospital for further care. The corpses have been moved to the government hospital for postmortem examination.
Chief Minister's Office said 10 people have died and the condition of a girl child is critical in the collision between a Bolero and a truck going to a marriage function near Balodgahan between Purur and Charma in Balod district. "While paying tribute to the departed souls in this very tragic accident, the CM Bhupesh Bhagel has prayed for the recovery of the injured girl child," it said in a short statement in social media.
"It has just been reported that 10 people have died and one girl is in critical condition in a collision between a Bolero and a truck going to a marriage function near Balodgahan between Purur and Charma in Balod. May God give peace to the departed souls and courage to their families. I pray for the recovery of the injured girl," Bhagel wrote in his personal handle. The Chief Minister has also announced a compensation amounting to Rs 4 lakh for every deceased.
Balod Superintendent of Police Jitendra Kumar Yadav said the injured child has been referred to Raipur for better treatment as per the advice of the doctors. He added that the search is on to trace the absconding truck driver. Police sources said a special team has been formed to nab him.
