Raipur:The novel Coronavirus has claimed more than 88,000 lives worldwide and according to a recent report, a tiger in New York's Bronx Zoo is believed to be the first known infection in an animal.
Raipur Jungle Safari on alert following corona scare in animals This raised an alarming situation and the Central Zoo Authority has issued advisories regarding the management of COVID-19 in National Parks, Sanctuaries and Tiger Reserves in the country.
The Chief Wildlife Warden in Nava Raipur in Chhattisgarh inspected the jungle safari and directed the zoo authorities to take proper sanitisation measures in the animal enclosures.
Speaking to ETV Bharat, Vinod Singh Thakur, the Assistant Director of the largest Man-made jungle safari in the state said that given the spread of coronavirus all animal enclosures have been sanitized, PPE suits have been purchased and the animals are fed taking proper precautions.
"The zoo has been locked down completely since March 15th and only zookeepers are allowed to go near the animals after they have worn their respective PPE suits," he added.
Vinod Singh Thakur further said that all measures are being undertaken in pursuance to the orders of the Central Zoo Authority. "Everyone is taking precautions to ensure that the coronavirus does not infect the animals. Only the administration and veterinary doctors are allowed to go inside. Anyone who goes inside the animal enclosures sanitises himself first. Special care and caution are also taken regarding animal feeding."
He said that the zoos shall be opened only after the state administration orders, we will adhere to all the guidelines issued after the lockdown.
