Kanker (Chhattisgarh): An encounter broke out between the Maoists and the BSF and police force in Mendhra forest of Bargaon police station area of Kanker district in Chhattisgarh on Friday evening. The encounter broke out when the joint party of District Force and BSF 178 Battalion from BSF Camp Mendhra had gone on a search operation towards Markachuwa. Meanwhile, the Naxalites, who were hiding in the forest started firing on the jawans and the soldiers retaliated near Upanjur village, police sources said.
According to police sources, a BSF jawan identified as Vikas Singh suffered minor injuries in the encounter. A woman Naxalite was seriously injured after being shot at. She was identified as Fagni, a member of the RKB division. The injured woman Naxalite was active in the Naxalite organization as LOS commander.

However, taking advantage of the darkness, the Naxalites fled from the spot. After getting the information about the encounter, the medical team and senior police officers from Pakhanjur left for the spot. Pakhanjur Sub-Divisional Officer Ravi Kujur said there was an encounter between the soldiers and the Naxalites in Mendhra forest of Bargaon police station area. The search operation for the Naxalites is still going on.
Recently, in a raid carried along the Chhattisgarh-Telangana border, the police had arrested 10 Naxalites and seized explosives which were being transported to Maoist leaders, who planned major blasts in Chhattisgarh. Telangana's Bhadradi Kottagudum police had claimed the arrest a success and claimed that a major subversive plan was foiled by them.
