Naxal with Rs 1 lakh reward surrenders in Chhattisgarh

Jagdalpur (Chhattisgarh): A Naxal, with a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head, surrendered in Chhattisgarh's Bastar district on Friday, police said.

Gayata Madvi, who was active in Katekalyan division of Maoists, surrendered before senior police and CRPF officials citing his disappointment with violence committed by ultras, their "hollow" ideology and "anti-development" policy, said Deepak Jha, SP, Bastar.

Madvi was inducted into Katkelyan Area Committee, a wing of the outlawed outfit, in 2011 when he was just 13 years old, the official said and became the head of the Committee of Maoists in Bastar.

"The surrendered Naxal said he was disappointed with the hollow Maoist ideology and their anti-people activities. At the same time, he also said that he was impressed by the surrender and rehabilitation policy of the state government," he added.

Madvi was allegedly involved in eight attacks in Bastar district and he added that Madvi was carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head.

"The surrendered ultra was given an encouragement amount of Rs 10,000 and will be further provided assistance as per the surrender-cum-rehabilitation policy," he said.
