"He was persuaded by his sister to surrender and join the mainstream. As per his statement, Malla, a native of Bhairamgarh area in West Bastar district, got detached from his family in 2005 when the erstwhile anti-Naxal movement - Salwa Judum - was at the peak in the region and rebels took him along with them. Recently, when Malla had arrived at his sister's place in Dantewada, his sister met him and convinced him to quit the movement," Dantewada, SP, Abhishek Pallav said.

Dantewada police have launched a campaign called ‘Lon Varratu’ (a local Gondi dialect term which means ‘return to your village’) and have vowed to provide immediate assistance of Rs 10,000 to everyone who turns themselves in, in addition to facilities as per the government’s surrender and rehabilitation policy.

He was involved in various incidents, including encounters, blasts and damaging railway tracks, he said.

Necessary assistance will be provided to him, as per the rehabilitation and surrender policy of the Chhattisgarh government, the SP added.
