Bastar (Chhattisgarh): With the monsoon setting in, Chhattisgarh's Bastar is now bracing for a spike in malaria cases even as it wrestles with Covid-19 cases with the number of infections surging in recent weeks.
As the Bastar District is carrying out the second phase of 'Bastar Malaria Mukt Abhiyaan' over two lakh people have been tested in one month, out of which more than 3500 people were found positive. Out of these 1800 are children aged between 1-14 years. The rising number of Malaria patients is a cause of major worry for the health department of the state.
Around 3 lakh 200 people have been tested in the seven districts of Bastar division, out of which 9,763 people have tested positive.
The Chief Medical Officer of Bastar district has informed that under the abhiyaan Malaria tests of more than two lakh people have been completed in the district itself, in which more than 3500 people have been found to be malaria positive.
The concerned official further informed that out of total patients 54% have been found to be children. Many kids suffering from Malaria have also been found to be malnourished. In such a condition attempts are being made to supply necessary nutritious substances to these children.
As per information received, from the concerned official, around 40- 50 patients reach the District Malaria Center to get themselves tested for malaria.
