Raipur:Chhattisgarh started to grapple with a surge of COVID-19 as it has been recording a large number of positive cases for the last few days.
In the last 3 days, more than 25 people lost their lives every day due to the pandemic which led to a complete lockdown in the Durg district from April 6.
Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and state's former Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh slammed Bhupesh Baghel-led Congress government on the basis of a viral video on social media. However, ETV Bharat does not vouch for the authenticity of the video.
The video tweeted by Singh shows visuals of cremation ground on one side, where several corpses are being burnt, whereas, on the other side CM Baghel is seen holding an election meet in Assam.
Meanwhile, District Collector Sarveshwar Narendra Bhure said that in view of the rapid rise in COVID-19 cases, it has become necessary to break the chain of transmission by imposing a lockdown and public support is required for it.
The lockdown will be imposed from April 6 to April 14, the statement issued by the district administration said.
The statement, however, did not mention which activities will be allowed and restricted during this period.
