Five more Naxals surrender in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada

Five Naxalites carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh on their heads, surrendered before the Dantewada police on Tuesday. They surrendered saying they were impressed by a rehabilitation campaign being run by the police here.

Dantewada:As many as 5 Naxalites surrendered before police in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada district on Tuesday. The Naxalites have been identified as Jagdish, Kamlesh, Dinesh, Balku and Shivnath.

According to sources, five Naxals surrendered before District Collector Deepak Soni, Superintendent of Police Abhishek Pallav and Directorate General Central Reserve Police Force DN Lal in Dantewada district under 'Loan Varatu' (Return to your home) campaign.

Speaking to media persons, SP Abhishek Pallava said, "Under the campaign, 5 Naxals operating in the area of Bhansi police station have surrendered their weapons. All these Maoists were involved in several major incidents like the dismantling of the railway tracks, the breaking of the school building. The police consider the surrender of all these Maoists a major success."

"All 5 ultras in their statement said they were disappointed with the "hollow" Maoist ideology, and at the same time were impressed by 'Loan Varratu' (term coined in local Gondi dialect which means 'return to your village') campaign being run by police in Dantewada. All Naxalites were carrying a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh on her head," Pallava said.

The posters mention the names of rebels and appeal to them to join the mainstream. They surrendered saying they were impressed by a rehabilitation campaign being run by the police here. So far, 53 Naxals have surrendered under the drive, sources added.
