ETV Bharat impact: Captive tribals rescued from jag factory in CG

Lormi ( Chhattisgarh): Eleven Baiga tribe bonded labourers held hostage in a jaggery factory in Chhattisgarh's Lormi tehsil were freed after Etv Bharat reported the matter prominently few days ago. The factory is owned by a local BJP leader Shatrughan Sahu.

The local administration came to the rescue of bonded labourers, working in the factory under inhospitable condition for years, after Etv Bharat exposed the matter few days ago.

The tribals hailing from Bijarakachhar village of Lormi tehsil were held hostage from January 26 in the jaggery factory. A woman labourer alleged that she was not allowed to meet anyone and also to go anywhere outside the factory.

The incident came to the light after a victim's relative complained about it to Lormi Sub Divisional Magistrate and matter was subsequently reported by ETV Bharat prominently. Later, a team of officials led by the Lormi SDM raided the jag factory and rescued the tribals.
