The lockdown has caused enough losses to businessmen in the Pandri textile market as the wedding season (March-April) used to bring 30-35% of the annual business. The market consists of 400 shops, including 200 wholesale shops, and has an annual turnover of around 500 crores.

Raipur:The ongoing lockdown called due to the coronavirus has stalled trade and business system across the nation. It is for the first time in 40 years, Pandri cloth market- the largest textile market of Chhattisgarh- has gone silent.

The loss incurred by the textile traders is being reported in crores this wedding season (March-April) due to the lockdown in the country and the situation of Pandri cloth market is no different.

Central India's largest textile market has been sending out clothes to different regions: Odisha, Jharkhand, Vidarbha, Telangana, Bihar and UP.

The market consists of 400 shops, including 200 wholesale shops, and has an annual turnover of around 500 crores.

The lockdown has caused enough losses to businessmen in the Pandri textile market as the wedding season used to bring 30-35% of the annual business.

Apart from wholesale textile traders, many businessmen in the market deal in ready-made and retail textile products on a large scale.

The havoc of COVID-19 and the subsequent lockdown has completely devastated the cloth trade.

Although the Pandri Textile Dealers Association has claimed to pay full wages to its subordinate employees during this period, the impact of the inoperative business due to coronavirus crises is expected to last for a few months.

It has been estimated that the adverse condition of the recession is likely to continue till Diwali.
