Chhattisgarh: School reopens after 15 years in Naxal-hit Gorena

A school in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district has been reopened after 15 years. The school is set in the Naxal-hit Gorena village.

Bijapur: Chhattisgarh is one of those states of India that is prone to Naxalism. The most vulnerable areas are those that lack education facilities along with the basic amenities of life.

Gorena is a typical Naxal-prone village in the Bijapur district. Like other such villages, it also lacks facilities like water, electricity and education.

But, the District Administration here has tried to paint the village in a different colour by reopening a school that was shut for 15 years.

Little children crossing rivers and brooks to study in the school run in a hut is a sight that is pleasing to the eyes.

The administration sought help from the villagers to reopen the school so that a better path for the children's future could be paved.

However, it is difficult to reach this interior village during the rainy season as the road connecting it with the rest of the district gets submerged in water.

As a solution to this, the administration has appointed the small number of youths who are educated in the village as 'Shiksha Doots' (educators).

These educators will be teaching the children at the newly reopened school.

Despite the lack of other facilities in the village, the villagers are happy for their children.

Speaking on the matter, a local MLA said, "The Congress party has promised to reopen more schools in the state. It is planning to reopen 50-60 schools which have been shut for a long time."

A similar incidence of a school reopening after 13 long years in the Sukma district of the state came into light a while ago.

The state government is currently making efforts at improving the education facilities in Naxalism-hit villages of the state.
