Chhattisgarh minor girl death case: FIR registered against agent

Jamalo Madkam, a 12-year-old died of electrolyte imbalance and exhaustion, after walking for over three days with 13 others, covering over 100 kilometres trying to make her way back home amid the lockdown.

Raipur:Taking immediate action on the instructions of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, Secretary of Labour Department, Sonamani Bora has directed to register an FIR against the concerned employer and agent Kumari Sunita Madkami of Telangana on the death of the 12-year-old girl, Jamalo Madakam of Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district.

According to sources, Jamalo died barely 11 kilometres before her home in Aded in the Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh. The deceased had left her house for the first time two months ago, to work at a chilli farm in Telangana along with some relatives and friends.

Officials said the tribal girl died on April 18 due to electrolyte imbalance and exhaustion, having walked for over three days with 11 others, covering over 100 km and dying barely 11 km short of her home in Aded.

After a separate investigation by the labour inspector, it was obtained that one, Kumari Sunita Madkami had taken 5 minor children to Telangana without giving any information to the labour department, which comes under the category of illegal human trafficking, sources said.

It is pertinent to be mentioned here that Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel had sanctioned an amount of Rs one lakh from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund to the family of Madkam as an immediate assistance

After a discussion with the Bijapur Collector, an additional approval of Rs 4 lakh has been given from the Chief Minister's Voluntary Fund. The Chief Minister has also directed Collector of Bijapur to investigate into the matter and submit a report immediately.
