Chhattisgarh govt to support tribal students for medical studies

In a student-centric move, the Chhattishgarh government has announced to support to students who had passed the NEET but failed to register themselves for pre-admission counselling.

Raipur: Bhupesh Baghel-led Chhattishgarh government has decided to support all students, who cleared the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) but could not register themselves for pre-admission counselling because of the technical issues.

The Chief Minister, after learning about the issue through an ETV Bharat report published on Tuesday, directed the officials concerned to ensure admission of all such students in private medical colleges, announcing that the state government would pay for them.

The news report had talked about how the tribal students, living in the far-flung areas of the state, could not register themselves for the counselling and how it led to a gloomy situation among the students and their families.

It was learnt that a number of students failed to register for counselling through the online mode due to network problems and the parents of such students were unhappy with the administration accusing it of not doing enough to ensure smooth admission process for them.

In Dantewada district alone, 27 students had cleared the NEET but could not register for the counselling session.

In his order, Baghel said that anyone found eligible on the basis of the final cut off would also be given admission and supported by the state government.

This is for the first time in the history of Chhattisgarh that the state government would pay for medical students studying private colleges.
