Auto driver's son commissioned as officer in Army

Abhishek Singh, an auto-rickshaw driver's son from Chhattisgarh's Durg town has become an Army officer. Despite all his adversities, he excelled in military training and passed out from the Indian Military Academy (IMA) today.

Durg (Chhattisgarh):Fighting all odds, Abhishek Singh, an auto-rickshaw driver's son from Chhattisgarh's Durg district, passed out from the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun as a part of the 147th course on Saturday.

Umesh Singh, father of Abhishek couldn’t stop his eyes from welling up with tears as he saw his son in an Army officer’s uniform at the Indian Military Academy's passing out parade on television.

A resident of Khurshipar and a Class XII science student, Abhishek had joined the Indian Army as a soldier in 2012 and was posted in 21st battalion of Rajput Regiment.

Later he worked hard there and prepared for Combined Defence Services Examination (CDS) in 2017 and after that, he was selected for India Military Academy. Now, he has become an Army officer.

Recounting the struggles that he had to undergo before savouring this moment, the officer's father, said ETV Bharat, "Abhishek was a very good student from his childhood and he worked day in and out during recruitment days in the Army. Now he has become an officer from a soldier, which made the whole family very happy."

"I have been driving an autorickshaw for many years. I am so happy to see that my son has become an army officer. Despite having seen such financial hardships, he was never tempted by money," he said.

Abhishek got married recently and he was blessed with a baby girl. His wife, Manisha Singh also gives full credit to his husband’s iron will, which did not let him falter even when his mother died when he was only five-years-old.

“Though he struggled a lot in his early days, he did not shift his focus from studies and cracked the CDS entrance in his second attempt," Manisha said.

Reportedly, Indian Military Academy held a passing out parade of the 2020 batch in Dehradun. A total of 325 cadets have now been promoted to army officers. However, due to covid pandemic, there was no invite to the students' parents and relatives.
