Rajnandgaon: Police rescued 33 children, suspecting of being trafficked, from Howrah- Mumbai Express here on Thursday. Acting on a tip-off, police halted the train and nab the accused, identified as Zakir Hussain, who was reportedly taking the children to Maharashtra.
Smita Pandey, a lawyer, who was present on the train, informed the police that she suspected that the man was trafficking the children. She kept updating the police about the train's status.
On the basis of information received from Hussain during interrogation, the police arrested three more people.
33 children rescued from Howrah-Mumbai Express "Acting on the tip-off by the lawyer, the police raided S-5 compartment of Howrah-Mumbai Express in which the trafficker was taking the children to Maharashtra. The children have been handed over to the Child Welfare Committee as their identity prooves were not present with the arrested person. Further action will be taken after the investigation," said UBS Chauhan, Assistant Superintendent of Police.
