32-year-old prisoner dies of COVID in Chhattisgarh

As citizens are grappling with the second wave of coronavirus in the country, an under-trial prisoner of Raipur Central Prison died of COVID-19 on Sunday. Last year too, a large number of prisoners had tested positive for COVID-19 in the state.

Raipur: A 32-year-old under-trial prisoner of Raipur Central Prison died of COVID-19 at a hospital in Chhattisgarh's Baloda Bazar on Sunday.

As per reports, this is the first death reported from the prison this year amid the second wave of novel coronavirus. Last year too, a large number of prisoners had tested positive for COVID-19 in the state.

Owing to a continuous rise in COVID-19-cases in the state capital, the district administration in Chhattisgarh extended the ongoing lockdown till April 26, officials said.

Earlier, the lockdown was declared from April 9 to April 19 and as per the order issued by the district collector, the lockdown will now be extended till April 26.
