Arrests after police stop car with cash and silver

Three men travelling in a car with over Rs 12 lakh in cash and 36 kilograms of silver were arrested in Chhattisgarh's Mahasamund. Police seized the silver and cash as the three men could not produce relevant documents.

Mahasamund (Chhattisgarh): The Chhattisgarh Police arrested three men who were travelling in a car with 36 kilograms of silver and Rs 12.7 lakh in cash, in Mahasamund on Wednesday.

According to reports, the police received information through an informant that hard cash and silver was being transported in a car from Khariyar road towards Mahasamund.

When the police reached the spot and conducted a search of the suspected car, they found 36.270 kilos of silver and Rs 12.7 cash hidden inside a compartment in the boot of the vehicle.

When the three men in the car failed to produce any valid documentation for the silver and cash, the police arrested them.

According to reports, the three arrested men, all residents of Agra in Uttar Pradesh, included two businessmen and the driver.

Sachin Kumar Gupta, one of the accused, said that he owned a jewellery store, and had travelled to Odisha to sell silver to various shops in the state.

Meanwhile, the police has forwarded the information to the Income-Tax department.
