Although the protest was led by left party affiliated students groups but JNU students union president N Sai Balaji of AISA managed to gather support from other political parties as well.
Samajwadi Party leaders and MP Dharmendra Yadav and AIDMK Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozi also participated in the dharna and addressed the gathering.
Although the protest was organized to raise the issue of crisis in higher education and jobs, the stage took a political turn and most of the students and political leaders who addressed the gathering appealed to throw Modi government out of power in the upcoming general elections.
Former JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar and independent MLA from Gujrat Jignesh Mewani are well known for their anti-Modi protests and statements.
