More than 6,000 railway stations will have free WiFi by September: Piyush Goyal

Piyush Goyal announced that more than six thousand railway stations will be having free WiFi by September. He also said that stations in India will have free WiFi in 151 days by Ganesh Chaturthi and 2,400 ilets will be constructed in circulating area of stations.

New Delhi: More than six thousand railway stations will be having free WiFi by September, this year, the Union Minister of Railways, Piyush Goyal, announced today. While launching railway development projects in the national capital, he called it as the biggest Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative in the history of Indian Railways.

Tata Trusts has donated a huge amount to Indian railways under their CSR initiative and undertaken the project to install free WiFi at 6,441 stations within 151 days. While announcing about this initiative, Piyush Goyal said, "Mostly all stations in India will have free WiFi in 151 days from today, by around Ganesh Chaturthi." 2,297 halt stations will be excluded from this initiative.

The Union Minister also announced that over 2,400 toilets will be constructed in circulating area of stations with separate units for men, women and divyanjans along with low-cost sanitary pads dispenser.

Under the National High Speed Rail Plan, 10 routes will get upgraded to high speed, and as many as 500 stations will get beautified. Funds are also being provided for 5,000 stainless steel benches to be installed.
