Why Congress summoned all its Bihar MLAs?

Amid speculation of split in Bihar Congress, all state MLAs have been summoned by the Congress high command in Delhi on July 7.

Patna: Bihar politics has taken a new turn, as some leaders have joined JDU and Congress has summoned all its state MLAs to Delhi following fear of losing candidates. JDU, which had secured only 43 out of 243 seats in Bihar Assembly polls, has now increased its strength with the joining of two leaders, Jamma Khan from BASPA and an independent candidate Sumit Singh.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, RJD leader Tejeshwi Yadav had hit out at Nitish Kumar terming his government weak and said that his government will fall soon. While on the other hand, it is discussed that amidst the efforts of RJD, JDU is putting all its efforts to attract some of the Congress MLAs. If JUD will succeed in its vision then congress will loose its statutory status and there will be no harm to memberships of any MLAs if 13 out of 19 MLAs come together to join the party. For a statutory status to any party, the number of MLAs should be two-third of the total MLAs.

Meanwhile, in a fear of loosing MLAs from the party, Congress has summoned all its Bihar MLAs to Delhi on July 7. The meeting was earlier scheduled to be held on July 9. The leaders will meet party president Sonia Gandhi and former party chief Rahul Gandhi in the national capital to discuss the political situation in Bihar.

According to sources, MLA Munna Tiwari from Buxar constituency and Manihari MLA Manohar Prasad Singh are very close to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. In 2010, Manohar had contested election on JDU seat while on the suggestion of Nitish Kumar, he had contested 2015 poll on Congress seat.

However, Congress Legislature Party leader Ajit Sharma has denied the report of any split in the party. He said that the report is just a rumour. Congress is a national party and there is no possibility of a split in it. He added that for those leaders who are not able to fulfill their role well, their change is certain. However, the final decision on this will be taken by the party high command, he said.
