New Delhi: Incessant rains have brought Bihar to a standstill as many areas remained inundated in knee-deep water and are struggling to meet their daily needs.
According to authorities, 72 casualties have been reported so far from the districts affected by heavy rainfall.
While Janata Dal (United), the party in power claims to have sanctioned enough funds for the relief and restoration work, the opposition parties and the people affected by the flood slammed JD(U).
The JD (U) government claims that six teams of the NDRF and two of the SDRF have so far rescued more than 10,000 people stranded in localities where the water level was several feet deep.
Speaking to ETV Bharat, JDU General Secretary KC Tyagi said, "Bihar government and central government are trying to help people in every possible way. The people who are affected in flood due to waterlogging or drainage, the rescue operation is conducted for them."
He added, "Preventive steps are also being taken to prevent the epidemic from spreading."
He said that besides the rescue operation, food packets are being dropped by army officials with the help of helicopters in the affected areas.
