Political parties instead of targeting JD(U), should help Bihar: JD(U) leader

New Delhi: Incessant rains have brought Bihar to a standstill as many areas remained inundated in knee-deep water and are struggling to meet their daily needs.

According to authorities, 72 casualties have been reported so far from the districts affected by heavy rainfall.

While Janata Dal (United), the party in power claims to have sanctioned enough funds for the relief and restoration work, the opposition parties and the people affected by the flood slammed JD(U).

The JD (U) government claims that six teams of the NDRF and two of the SDRF have so far rescued more than 10,000 people stranded in localities where the water level was several feet deep.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, JDU General Secretary KC Tyagi said, "Bihar government and central government are trying to help people in every possible way. The people who are affected in flood due to waterlogging or drainage, the rescue operation is conducted for them."

He added, "Preventive steps are also being taken to prevent the epidemic from spreading."

He said that besides the rescue operation, food packets are being dropped by army officials with the help of helicopters in the affected areas.

Moreover, according to the data provided by the National Disaster Rescue Force (NDRF), more than 11,000 people have been rescued from different parts of the state.

Tyagi added that the opposition should focus on the condition of the state and try to help rather than just commenting on the ruling party.

"Opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav, instead of talking to CM Nitish Kumar about the current issue and discussing the possible way out, is missing," he said.

The Meteorological Department has issued an alert in some districts of central Bihar including Patna. If in case the situation gets worse due to heavy rainfall, JDU is ready to deal with it, he further added.

Earlier on Wednesday, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar claimed that climate change has caused floods in the state. He said climate change has affected several places across the world as well.

Indian Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert in Patna, Vaishali, Begusarai and Khagaria districts of Bihar.
