Ara (Bihar): In a bizarre occurrence, several bats were found dead in Tarari village, 55 km south from Bhojpur district headquarters on Tuesday.

According to the reports, hundreds of bats were found dead, following which the animal husbandry department was informed by the locals.

A team comprising of six doctors were moved to the village to enquire about the incident.

The team has submitted the initial report in which they claim that the mass death was likely caused by either heatstroke or pesticides.

The official added that samples of the bats were later sent for testing to Patna. The reason behind the mass deaths could only be ascertained after getting the medical report from Patna.

"It is too soon to say that the death is linked to coronavirus. We need to wait for the postmortem results before we can reach any conclusion," said a doctor.

Meanwhile, the dead bodies of bats were buried six feet deep in the ground and the incident site and all the nearby places were also sanitised.
