Patna: Gandhi Maidan bomb blast convict Iftekhar Alam has been released from the Beur Jail on Thursday after he completed his seven years of Jail term.
The NIA court had on November 1 pronounced seven years of imprisonment to Iftikhar, who was lodged in the Beur jail since 2013. Following the Judgement, Iftikhar wrote an application stating that he had served more than the announced punishment as he has been lodged in jail since 2013. Iftikhar had on Wednesday submitted a penalty amount of Rs10,000 to the court. The jail administration released him today after getting direction from the court.
According to the court's judgement, the Iftekhar would have been released on Wednesday itself but it could not happen as he had not paid the fine amount. Iftekhar was convicted of destruction of evidence and sentenced to 7 years in prison in connection with eight-year-old deadly Gandhi Maidan serial blasts.
