Confident of 'Mahagathbandhan's victory' in Bihar: Sharad Yadav

Former union minister and Loktantrik Janata Dal head Sharad Yadav on Saturday said he is sure that the grand alliance in Bihar will defeat the BJP-led NDA government in the Lok Sabha elections. The LJD leader said that while on the one hand, BJP is claiming that they would repeat the result of the 2014 General Elections by securing an 'absolute majority' for the second consecutive time, but on the other hand, everybody knows that the party's condition in the ongoing polls is not good.

New Delhi: Taking a dig at the Bharatiya Janta Party, former union minister and Loktantrik Janata Dal (LJD) chief Sharad Yadav on Saturday exuded confidence over the 'mahagathbandhan's' victory in Bihar, and said that the grand alliance is all set to defeat the BJP-led NDA government in the soon-to-be-concluded Lok Sabha polls.

Speaking exclusively to ETV Bharat Yadav said, "There are 40 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar. I am confident that the grand alliance is going to make a clean sweep."

Further launching a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the LJD leader said that even though the BJP is claiming that they would form a government with a clear majority and repeat its 2014 general election performance, we are well aware of the saffron party's poor condition in the ongoing polls.

Earlier in the day, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N Chandrababu Naidu met Sharad Yadav and other opposition leaders including Congress President Rahul Gandhi to discuss among other things the possibility of forming an alternative government at the Centre if the BJP does not get enough numbers to retain power.

Naidu's meeting with Congress and other opposition party leaders comes a day before the last leg of Lok Sabha election on Sunday during which 59 seats will go to polls in seven States and one Union territory.

Campaign for the long drawn out general elections in Bihar, spread over all the seven phases, came to a close on Friday at 6 pm, for the last lap of electioneering wherein eight Lok Sabha seats go to polls.

The constituencies which go to polls on Sunday are Patna Sahib, Pataliputra, Arrah, Buxar, Sasaram, Karakat, Jehanabad, and Nalanda. Seven of these were won by the NDA in 2014.
