New Delhi:Days after joining Indian National Congress, former CPIM leader Kanhaiya Kumar on Friday stated that he had joined the party to save democracy across the nation.

In a conversation with ETV Bharat, Kanhaiya said, "The Congress is the oldest and largest opposition party in India. It always stands for democracy and that is why I have joined it. I believe that opposition party should always be stronger,"

Kanhaiya further stated that BJP is afraid of him and his entry into Congress will break the saffron party into pieces. He said in reply to BJP's statement that Kanhaiya's joining in Congress means a merger of the Tukde-Tukde gang with the INC. "The saffron party calls me tukde tukde gang that means they are afraid of being broken into pieces, not the country," Kanhaiya added.

The young leader further stated that he will make Congress the most powerful party in Bihar and will solve the basic problems of the state. Kanhaiya said "I want Congress to become the most powerful party in the state. The state is suffering from various issues like a crumbling health system, migration and lack of industries. All these issues need to be resolved, I will work in that direction."

Speaking over CPI's accusation that he is unprofessional and does not respect neither the party nor party leaders, Kanhaiya downplayed it and said, "I learned to fight for rights. The CPI taught me lot of things so I have no complaints against it. Accusations are part of politics,"

Kumar had joined the Communist Party of India (CPI) ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha election and had unsuccessfully contested from Begusarai in Bihar against Giriraj Singh of the BJP.
