Gopalganj (Bihar):Amid the coronavirus-induced lockdown, the plight of the poor has no parallel as they seem to be the worst sufferers with no means of income.
Virendra of Bihar's Gopalganj, is suffering from TB, and has no food to survive during the lockdown.
Out of work and on the verge of starvation, Virendra's family suffered a lot as they depended on his daily earnings to meet their everyday family needs.
According to sources, Virendra had lost his home earlier due to a flood in the Gandak river. His wife died five years ago due to illness. Now a total of three people are left in his family.
"During the crisis, Virendra's children suffered a lot to meet their everyday family needs. My father was working as a bus conductor, but he lost his job after the illness. Since then, we are facing so many difficulties in this dilapidated house. My study has been stopped," said Vikash, Virendra's son.
"Somehow, we are getting food now, but because of lack of treatment, my father's health condition is deteriorating. We are not getting any government help in such a gloomy situation," he added.
Notably, with the lockdown extended till month-end, thousands of people are going to bed hungry. From domestic help to construction workers, carpenters, slum-dwellers and other daily wagers in several parts of the country have been struggling to make ends meet.
