Bhagalpur: An explosion took place inside a police station in Bihar's Bhagalpur district on Monday, when a bomb allegedly kept in the sack of a scavenger went off while she was collecting garbage in its premises.

The 70-year-old scavenger, Bunki Devi, was seriously injured in the blast and was admitted to the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital in the city.

"The incident occurred near the lock-up of Nathnagar police station," Station House Officer (SHO) Mohammad Ali Sabri said.

Sabri further said that the woman regularly collects garbage from the police station premises and she probably had picked up a crude bomb somewhere else and it went off inside the police station.

The SHO also said that no bomb was stored inside the police station premises.

The incident is being investigated.
