Patna: Former MP Lovely Anand, who rejoined Congress recently after leaving the party in 2014, has expressed strong discontent from the party after she was denied a ticket from Bihar's Sheohar seat to contest for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Lovely, wife of Anand Mohan who is currently serving life-term in jail in the murder of IAS officer G Krishnaiah, has been a popular figure in the constituency. Sources revealed that she had accepted the membership of Congress after the senior party leaders had promised her a ticket from Sheohar.
In an exclusive interview with ETV Bharat, former MP from Vaishali said, "I feel ignored and betrayed after the party's decision. The importance of Sheohar, for us, rises above all politics. For a very long time, our family has been closely connected with the place and its people. Congress will now have to pay a heavy price for their decision."
In an apparent attack on the party, Lovely alleged that Congress has sold tickets in exchange of money. "The tickets for Sheohar have been bought. The party might face a hard time revamping its image if the truth comes out," she added.
"My husband had represented the constituency twice in the past. Our hold in the area is strong. The people of Sheohar have always loved us. I am going to meet the people soon in a seven-day program. If my people want, I will contest as an independent candidate from the constituency for the upcoming polls," she added.
In a recent development, reports claimed that Congress has given the ticket for Sheohar to RJD, its main ally in Bihar. However, the party is yet to announce the name of the candidate.
Lovely Anand contested from Sheohar in 2014 Lok Sabha election on Samajwadi Party ticket but lost her security deposit.
