Motihari: As the rivers in East Champaran district of Bihar are flowing above the danger mark due to the floods triggered by incessant rains, Motihari District Magistrate Shirsat Kapil Ashok and SP Naveen Chandra Jha have joined the NDRF rescue teams to assist in the flood relief operations. They also saved one person from drowning during their visit to flood-hit Bhawanipur village in Sangrampur.
The floodwaters are creating havoc by destroying river embankments. The rising water level of Gandak river has created immense pressure on the Champaran embankment resulting in its breach up to a height of 150 feet near Bhawanipur in Sangrampur block. Due to the heavy water flow, it has become difficult to repair the broken part as well. The water of Gandak river has submerged many villages in Areraj, Sangrampur, Kotwa and Kesariya blocks.
