19 NDRF teams deployed in Bihar; 4945 people evacuated

As much as 19 teams of NDRF have been deployed in affected areas of Bihar. NDRF rescuers are carrying out rescue and evacuation operations with other agencies in the flood-affected areas in the state.

  • So far, NDRF has rescued 02 people and evacuated 4945 people and 45 livestock.

Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi has expressed her concern over the flood sitution arising out of incessant rains in Bihar. 

She also instructed the office bearers of the Pradesh Congress committees (PCCs) and its frontal organisations to provide all possible assistance to the ordinary people facing hardship.

However, Congress MP Akhilesh Singh has accused Chief Minister Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government of not providing proper relief to flood-affected people in Patna and other parts of the state and has demanded his resignation.

Arrangements are being made in flood-affected region: Bihar CM


Speaking on the flood situation in Bihar, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar told: "There has been heavy rainfall in some areas since yesterday and water in Ganga river is rising constantly. But there are proper arrangements and administration is at the spot and making all the efforts to help people."

"Such a situation is not in any one's hand, it's a natural thing. Arrangements are being done to provide drinking water to all. Also, arrangements are being made for community kitchens for the flood-affected people,"he further added.

Incessant rain lash Bihar, 13 dead

 At least 10 persons have died after buildings collapsed and trees fell on them due to incessant rain in Patna, Bhagalpur and Kaimur districts of Bihar.

The three districts are among over a dozen in the state that were lashed by incessant rain for close to 48 hours bringing normal business to a grinding halt and disrupting rail and road traffic in most places.

According to weather department, the state capital has received more than 200 mm of rainfall since Friday evening, which was described by Principal Secretary, Disaster Management department, Pratyay Amrit as "totally unexpected".

He also expressed concern over water having entered many power sub-stations which could affect the functioning of sump houses in the long run.

Bihar Flood Fury: 4945 people evacuated, opposition targets CM Nitish Kumar

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday predicted that isolated places in Bihar is likely to receive heavy rainfall today.

The weather forecast agency further predicted that Saurashtra, Kutch, East Rajasthan and Gangetic West Bengal are also likely to receive heavy downpour later in the day.

"Heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy falls are very likely at isolated places over Assam, Meghalaya, Uttarakhand, East Uttar Pradesh, West Rajasthan, Jharkhand, south Tamilnadu, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura," IMD said in its all India weather warning bulletin.

Squally weather likely to prevail over Gujarat coast and adjoining northeast Arabian Sea, southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining equatorial Indian Ocean and Comorin area.

The organisation has advised fishermen not to venture into these areas for the next few days.
