Darbhanga: As the rivers in north Bihar continue to be in spate following heavy rainfall, the threat of flood looms large on various districts of the state.
The low-lying areas including Muzaffarpur, Motihari, Darumbhaga and Sitamarhi are vulnerable to floods, while several rivers in north Bihar continue to flow above their corresponding danger levels since the past few days.

Similarly, villages near the Kamala river in Bihar's Darbhanga district have got submerged due to the ongoing monsoon rains resulting in flood, which forced many families to take shelter elsewhere.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, head of Panchobh Panchayat in Darbhanga Rajiv Kumar Choudhary said that that the population of 50,000 of at least a dozen villages has been affected by the increasing water levels in the area. "The speed with which the water is rising suggests that water will enter the houses in the next few hours," he said.
River Bagmati crossed the highest flood level at Belsand in Sheohar district Dharmendra Kumar, a local villager said that the paths to and from the village were blocked due to the floodwaters. "The administration should arrange boat and plastic sheets for them very soon, otherwise the trouble will only increase for us," Kumar said.
According to the Meteorological Department, the monsoon is in its active mode in Bihar. There is a probability of heavy rainfall and thunderstorm in several districts of the state.
For Patna, Jehanabad, Nawada, Bhojpur, Rohtas, Aurangabad, Siwan, Chapra and Banka, the Meteorological Department issued an alert saying that incidences of lightning might increase in these areas.

- The water level of the Gandak river is 26 cm above the danger mark in Dumariya Ghat.
- The water level of the Bagmati river has reached the danger mark in Dhangbridge.
- The water level is 79 cm above in Beniabad.
- The Mahananda River is 111 centimeters above the danger mark in Dhingraghat.
- The water level of Kamla Balan river is 250 cm above the danger mark in Jhanjharpur.
- The water level is 85 centimeters above the danger mark in Jayanagar.
