Bihar CM allocates portfolios to Cabinet ministers, retains home department

Portfolios were allocated among members of the Nitish Kumar cabinet in Bihar on Tuesday with the chief minister retaining key departments like home which he had held in the previous government. Here are the details about Nitish Kumar's cabinet ministry.

Patna: Nitish Kumar was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Bihar for 7th time on Monday. Along with Kumar, 14 other MLCs and MLAs took the oath of office and secrecy on November 16. The departments were allocated to all ministers on Tuesday and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has kept five main departments with him.

His other portfolios include general administration, cabinet secretariat, election and other departments that have been not been allocated to anyone.

NITISH KUMAR, CHIEF MINISTER

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has kept the main five departments with him. Among them are General Administration, Home Department, Cabinet Secretariat, Monitoring Department and Election Department. Apart from these five departments, all such departments which have not been allotted to anyone will also be under the Chief Minister.

TARKISHORE PRASAD, DEPUTY CM

Tarkishore Prasad, who has been made a Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, has been given the responsibility of six departments. He has got the Finance Department, Commerce and Taxation Department, Environment, Forest and Climate Change Department, Information Technology Department, Disaster Management and Urban Development and Housing Department.

RENU DEVI, DEPUTY CM

Bihar’s first female Deputy Chief Minister Renu Devi has been given the command of three departments. Renu will be handled by Panchayati Raj, Backward Classes and Backward Classes Welfare and Industries Department.

VIJAY KUMAR CHOUDHARY

Vijay Kumar Chaudhary will take charge of five departments. These departments are Rural Work, Parliamentary Affairs, Rural Development, Water Resources, and Information and Public Relations Department.

BIJENDRA PRASAD YADAV

Bijendra Prasad Yadav, who is a senior member of Chief Minister Kumar Cabinet, will be looking after the Department of Energy; Alcohol Prohibition, Products and Registration, Planning and Development; and Food and Consumer Protection. In all, four departments have been assigned to Yadav.

ASHOK CHAUDHARY

Ashok Chaudhary has been given the responsibility of Building Construction, Social Welfare, Science and Technology and Minority Welfare departments.

MEVALAL CHAUDHARY

The important responsibility -- Education Department of Bihar -- will now be in the hands of Mevalal Chaudhary. Mevalal has got this big department in Nitish’s Cabinet. The issue of education is quite important in Bihar.

SHEELA KUMARI

Sheila Kumari will look after the State’s Transport Department.

SANTOSH KUMAR SUMAN

Santosh Kumar Suman, who joined Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s Cabinet, has been given the responsibility of Small Water Resources and Scheduled Caste/Tribes Welfare Departments.

MANGAL PANDEY v

Mangal Pandey will once again take charge of the Health Department in Bihar government. Along with this important department, two more departments have been assigned to him. These departments are the Department of Arts, Culture and Youth and Road Construction.

AMARENDRA PRATAP SINGH

Everyone was speculating as to who would be given the charge of the Agriculture Department in the new government. This time Amarendra Pratap Singh has been made Agriculture Minister in Nitish Kumar’s new Cabinet. Amarendra has been given the responsibility of the Department of Cooperation and Sugarcane Industry as well along with agriculture.

MUKESH SAHNI

VIP chief Mukesh Sahni, who joined Nitish's Cabinet, has been given the responsibility of Animal and Fisheries Resources Department.

RAMPREET PASWAN

The Public Health Engineering Department has been assigned to Rampreet Paswan.

JIVESH KUMAR

Jivesh Kumar has been given the responsibility of the Departments of Labour Resources, Tourism and Mines in the State government.

RAM SURAT RAI

The responsibility of Revenue and Land Reforms and Law Departments in Bihar has been entrusted to Ram Surat Rai.
