Darbhanga (Bihar):In a controversial statement, Bhartiya Janata Party's MLA from Bisfi, Haribhushan Thakur Bachol on Monday said the popular notion about religion that "it does not teach hatred" is a blatant lie.
While inaugurating the second day of the three-day Mithila Vibhuti ceremony organised in memory of Adi poet Vidyapati in Darbhanga, Bachol also said some people do not vote for him as he is from BJP despite his hard work in the social domain.
"The blatant lie by religion is that it does not teach hatred. Religion teaches only hatred, religion teaches that if someone does not listen to you, then kill that person or rape her," said the BJP legislator.
"We are the carriers of culture and obey God's teachings. But what we have got? What did we get in 1947? What we are getting today? We work for people by sweating blood, but they do not vote us. Why they do not vote for us is because we are associated with Bharatiya Janata Party and people think the BJP is spreading hatred," he said.
"People believe God exists even in stone. But when they discuss Ram-Krishna, Gita, Adi Shankaracharya and Vidyapati people feel that the mentioned sacred texts and philosophers are their enemies," he said.
Meanwhile, the statement sparked outrage among the opposition. Congress also demanded action against Bichol for his statement.
