Patna:Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi's All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) is all set to contest in the upcoming assembly elections in Bihar.

The party had announced its participation in June and said it will contest for 32 seats - banking on Muslim votes - for which as many candidates have been fielded.

Owaisi is eyeing Seemanchal in the upcoming Bihar assembly elections

These candidates will fight it out in Katihar, Purnia, Darbhanga, Samastipur, Patna, Balrampur, Bari, Amour, Baisi, Jokihat, Mahoba, Bettiah, Ramnagar, Dhaka, Parihar and Aurangabad among other 6 districts of the state.

Owaisi eyeing Seemanchal wants to make AIMIM's presence felt in the stronghold area of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Congress. He has especially shown interest in Araria, Kishanganj, Purnia and Katihar - the Muslim dominated areas of the region.

The party has segregated the seats based on the Muslim population in the areas marking it an A-plus, A and B3 grades.

The seats where the Muslim voter is more than 32 per cent have been marked A plus, population of 15 to 20 per cent has been kept in B grade and there are 16 such seats.

Already denting the Bihar assembly scene, AIMIM had registered its first victory in 2019 by-polls with Qamrul Hoda winning from Kishanganj.

The party had also done relatively well in Bihar in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections with AIMIM candidate, Akhtarul Iman giving stiff competition to the Congress candidate Mohammed Jawed who won the seat by defeating JD(U) candidate Syed Mahmood Ashraf.

Earlier, in the Bihar assembly elections in 2015, AIMIM had contested on six seats - Kocha Daman, Kishanganj, Raniganj, Baisi, Amour and Balrampur but had no success.

Although the party has been under fire for its stance to be limited in the Seemachal region and diving up the secular votes, will the party be able to expand in Bihar remains to be seen.
