Zero tolerance to Syndicate Raj, corruption: Tripura CM

Coming down hard on syndicate rackets, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb said anyone trying to tarnish the government's "transparent system" would not be spared. He paid a surprise visit to Jirania railway station and Madhabbari inter-state truck terminus to personally take stock of the situation.

Agartala: After reports of extortion and syndicate rackets triggered a row, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb paid a surprise visit to Jirania railway station and Madhabbari inter-state truck terminus to analyse the situation, according to sources. He said anyone trying to tarnish the government's "transparent system" would not be spared.

Deb recieved several complaints alleging that some vested interest groups were constantly trying to manipulate the system and establish a Syndicate Raj.

"See, there are two aspects to everything. One is to get a complaint and the other is to verify it. I have today talked to the officials, truckers, and labourers engaged in several positions in the inter-state truck terminus and railway stations," Deb said.

According to Deb, there is a section of vested interest groups with the intention to establish a corrupt racket of extortion. Such syndicates cannot be allowed to operate while the government is emphasising on transparency.

"There are complaints that some truck drivers are being deprived from working. This is unethical. Truck owners who are facing such partiality are even running out of money to repay their loans. This cannot be tolerated. Strong punitive measures will be taken against those who are trying to vitiate the system", said Deb.

According to Deb, the transport minister and truck owners' association will be consulted before initiating any action.
