Guwahati (Assam): Unidentified miscreants on Thursday fired at Congress legislator Rupjyoti Kurmi at a remote location in Assam's Jorhat.
Kurmi, who represents the Mariani constituency in Jorhat district went to Disoi Valley reserve forest on Thursday along with a delegation of local people and officials from the district administration after being informed that suspected people from Nagaland have entered the territory of Assam and established villages there.
However, as the delegation reached the area and was observing the situation, suspected miscreants from the other side fired at the delegation. Kurmi, however, could escape unhurt.
Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressing concern at the shootout has directed Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), GP Singh, to rush to the spot to take stock of the situation.
