Agartala:The Union government and the SAIL are taking steps to set up a steel stockyard in Tripura’s newly declared Special Economic Zone at Sabroom, disclosed Union Minister of Steel Ram Chandra Prasad Singh.
This was revealed following a high-level meeting chaired by the Union Minister between SAIL and state officials. The Minister said they studied the key indicators of Tripura’s growth. He added that the indicators suggest that there would be a huge increase in terms of steel requirement considering the growth projection.
"This brings up the discussion on setting up of a stockyard here in Tripura," the Minister told the media.
According to Singh, after the state’s connectivity with Bangladesh resumed and access to Chittagong port eased, there is an ample scope of expansion in infrastructure and steel being a very crucial component for infrastructure, the SAIL feels it should have a stockyard here.
“Things are still at the level of dialogue. A thorough study is to be conducted before giving any commitment in this regard," the Minister said and added, "we will deliberate further so that the idea can see the light of the day".
Lauding the State government for its progress, the Minister said the Tripura has progressed much in the past three years. “Under the leadership of Biplab Kumar Deb, Tripura is heading towards a new dawn. I have been told that Tripura has received two lakh PMAY houses, rubber plantation is being expanded and the state is emerging as an export corridor as well,” said the Minister.
Later, the Union Minister met Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb at the Secretariat to discuss the possibilities that can be explored for the all-around development of the state.
