Agartala:Sulking Congress leaders, who did not found a place in the newly declared Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee, tendered resignations. Within a few hours after the reappointment of Birajit Sinha as the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee president, a host of Congress activists, including Tripura Pradesh Youth Congress president Pujan Biswas, tendered resignations expressing their disappointment.

The leaders pointed out that it would be difficult for them to continue working under the leadership of Birajit Sinha. Veteran Congress leader and former Minister Bibhu Devi was the first to distance herself from the new executive committee. In a letter, she stated, "I am neither interested in holding any post in the Congress nor I was eager to remain in the Congress anymore." Her letter came as a big shocker for the newly appointed TPCC president, who just arrived here in Agartala from Delhi this morning.

“I have no interest to continue in Congress and I am not in politics at the moment and not to use my name in any political campaign so that people don’t get misguided. Unfortunately, the morale of party workers and leaders reached the lowest level. Our country requires a corruption-free democracy, which is committed to national security, the veteran leader wrote."

Later, addressing a press conference, former Tripura Pradesh Youth Congress president Pujan Biswas said, “We have repeatedly informed the party high command of the problems that are impeding Congress’s growth in the state. The party high command did not pay heed to our grievances and apparently reposed their hopes on the leaders, who failed to deliver anything for the Congress."

Purnita Chakma, who had been named in the new committee as working president, also quit the party. Biswas, however, hinted that he might join TIPRA Motha’s youth wing. Sources said the wind of change brought by the AICC in Tripura Congress only broke the party into more fragments. Already, the rise of TMC has dealt a major blow to Congress and in such a scenario, a slew of decisions taken by the AICC further weakened the Congress.
