NRC would help Assam, India to deal with infiltration problem: AASU

AASU General Secretary Lurin Jyoti Gogoi says the National Register of Citizens will be useful in order to deal with the issue of infiltration into Assam.

Guwahati: With the Assam government getting ready to announce the final list of the people registered in the National Register of Citizens on August 31, after the Supreme Court granted a month-long extension to it to declare the list, the All Assam Students Union has termed it a useful document that would help deal with the problem of intrusion from neighbouring country Bangladesh effectively.

Thousands of people were summoned for court hearings to prove their citizenship. Assam has been facing the problem of intrusion from Bangladesh for a long time.

Speaking to the ETV Bharat, General Secretary, All Assam Students Union (AASU), Lurin Jyoti Gogoi said that the list would be useful for the state and the country as a whole.
Gogoi said that in order to avoid further complications concerning the issue, the NRC would be the best way to deal with the problem of infiltration in the state.

Talking about the Assam Accord, Gogoi said illegal immigration has been creating problems for Assam's culture and identity.
He asserted that their organisation has always fought for foreigner free land. They not only joined the Assam agitation but also demanded the authorities to update the NRC.

AASU was instrumental in starting a six-year-long movement against the illegal immigrants in the state.
