New Delhi/Assam:Renowned author and Director of Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (CHRI) Sanjoy Hazarika on Saturday said that nobody in India can be deprived of their human rights be it citizens or non-citizens.
"Human rights are for everybody in India. It's part of the universal declaration of human rights and India is one of the signatories," said Hazarika to ETV Bharat.
He spoke to ETV Bharat hours after the final list of National Register of Citizen (NRC) was published in Assam. The list excluded names of more than 19 lakh people in the state.
"According to Article 21 of the Constitution, no one in India can be deprived of life and liberty," said Hazarika adding "Migration is a problem worldwide and thus can't be handled in an arbitrary way.
"Hazarika who has authored several books especially on Northeast said that NRC publication will not affect the bilateral ties between India and Bangladesh."This (NRC) will not have any impact on the bilateral and diplomatic relation with Bangladesh," said Hazarika.
