Muslims not getting govt jobs anyway: AIUDF chief on Assam's two-child policy

In response to the Assam government’s decision to implement a two-child policy in the state, All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief Badruddin Ajmal on Sunday said that since the government was anyway not providing jobs to Muslims, they should go ahead and have as many children as they want.

Assam:Taking a jibe at the government of Assam over its decision to implement a two-child policy in the state, All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief Badruddin Ajmal on Sunday accused the government of not providing jobs to Muslims, and said that the minority community members should go ahead and have as many children as they want.

"Islam doesn't believe in the concept of having restrictions on the number of children. Muslims don't care about not being given a job by the government, because we are anyway not getting employed. Our average employment rate is less than two per cent, " said Ajmal.

The minority leader added, "Sachar committee's report has highlighted the poor employment status of Muslims in the country. I urge the Muslims to educate themselves, set up their own businesses, and employ others and contribute to the country."

Hitting out at BJP's ideological mentor, RSS, Badruddin said, "On one hand, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat asks people to bear eight to ten children while on the other, the government-driven by the same ideology dictates people to produce only two children. First, they should decide what they want."

Continuing his tirade against the policy and the state government, the AIUDF chief said, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi is himself a fifth child in his family while Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal is the eighth child... If their parents had stopped having children, they would not have been born."

The Assam government on October 23 decided that people with more than two children will not be eligible for government jobs after January 1, 2021.

The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting with an aim to curb population explosion.

The policy is viewed by many as a move targeting the minority community.
