Miscreants kill deer for meat in Assam's Guwahati

The deer which had reportedly ventured into the residential area for drinking water was killed by a group of people for the meat of the buck in Assam's Guwahati on Tuesday. However, the accused was successful in fleeing from the spot.

Guwahati:A group of people allegedly killed a deer in order to sell the meat of the buck, police told ETV Bharat here on Tuesday. According to the reports, the incident took place at Sadilapur area under Jalukbari police station.

Acting on a tip-off, the Jalukbari police raided the house of Binoy Mazumdar and found the man has already skinned the deer. However, the accused was successful in fleeing from the spot.

"The deer had ventured into the residential area for drinking water, and it was killed by some persons," said a police officer to ETV Bharat.

As soon as we got the information, our staff immediately rushed to the village and seized the deer's carcass, added police.

"We have filed a case under relevant sections of the Wildlife Protection Act 1972. Legal action will be taken against those involved in the act," said the police officer.
