Guwahati:According to the NRC state coordinator, People excluded from the final NRC will get certified copies, regarding the rejection of their names, at the earliest so that they can file their appeals. However, Home Ministry finds itself in a muddle regarding setting up of Foreigners Tribunals as district wise NRC data is not available yet !

In the final list of National Register of Citizens (NRC) published on August 31, more than 19 lakh people were excluded. However, those left out can still apply to the designated Foreigners' Tribunals within 120 days for their cases to be heard.

But, NRC authority has failed to provide the district-wise data of excluded people, which is deemed necessary by the Home Ministry to set up more Tribunals. The Home Ministry is expected to move Supreme Court in this regard.

The government would establish 200 FTs primarily for handling cases of people to be excluded from the final NRC. These would be in addition to the existing 100 and are part of the 1,000 that the Centre had decided to help Assam set up in view of the pressure envisaged to dispose of cases of people to be left out of the NRC.

Since the NRC is published the People across several districts find themselves in a state of confusion as to where to go and on what basis.

Persons left out of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) will not be detained under any circumstances until foreigners tribunals (FTs) declare it. If the setting up of such tribunals nullifies the 120 day deadline provided, then the identity of many citizens remains in balance.
