Lakhimpur: Amid the lockdown and scare of COVID-19, Assam's renowned innovator Uddhab Bharali has invented a sanitizer which will not only sanitize your hands but also the entire room.

Bharali was conferred upon prestigious Padma Shree for his innovations in 2019.

Bharali has used the commonly used mosquito repellent, syringe and some other waste materials to invent the room sanitizer. Interestingly, Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) laboratory at Tezpur have complemented Bharali for his invention, albeit with some modification.

"We all use the mosquito repellent almost every day. So I thought why not take the help of the mosquito repellent to sanitize the room. The Coronavirus is in the air and so I thought of destroying it while using the air as medium," Bharali said.

He explained that he had used the normal sanitizer and turned it into gas using heat and it has proved to be effective. "I sent the model to the DRDO lab in Tezpur and they examined it for eight days and finally told me that it is effective," he said.

DRDO scientists have only advised me to reduce the quantity of glycerol. "This can sanitize an entire room in just five minutes," Bharali said.

Bharali has at least 118 innovations to his credit so far. Most of his innovations are of engineering nature aimed at helping the local communities.
