Guwahati: A large scale human organ trafficking racket has been unearthed at at South Dharamtul village in Morigaon district. Three person have been arrested so far for their alleged involvement with illegal kidney trade racket. The police department collaborating with the village guard, arrested a woman named Lilimai Boro of Guwahati and Lilimai's son and their accomplice, Ramen Medhi.
Boro was caught by the villagers while giving money in exchange for the cadaver. Reportedly, Boro's accomplice Ramen Medhi lured a helpless father from South Dharamtul during 2020 lockdown. He promised to pay Rs. 5 lakh besides bearing the medical expenses of his daughter diagnosed with heart disease. Later, Lilimai Bodo, Nitu Das, Ramen Medhi took him to Rabindranath Tagore Hospital in Kolkata. They allegedly took out his kidney and sent him back with Rs. 1.5 lakh instead of Rs. 5 lakh.
As per their agreement, the money was supposed to be paid as well as the cost of treatment of the girl but Boro and gang denied anything beyond Rs 1.5 lakh cash. Feeling cheated, the victim brought to light entire incident which has opened a Pandora box. Over twenty poor helpless people of the village have already been victim of the racket and five other people from the village are ready to give their organs at the same hospital in Kolkata.
