Government of India will be signing a peace accord with four militant groups of Assam on Monday afternoon. The signing ceremony will take place in the presence of Home Minister Amit Shah and other senior officials of Assam Government and senior home ministry officials.

New Delhi:In a step to fight Bodo insurgency in Assam, four dreaded Bodo militant outfits have agreed to sign a peace accord with the Government of India at the Home Ministry on Monday.

According to sources, the accord will be signed at around 1:30 pm in the afternoon for which, the Bodo militant outfits have already reached the national capital.

The signing ceremony will take place in the presence of Home Minister Amit Shah and other senior officials of Assam Government and senior home ministry officials.

Four Bodo rebel groups include the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) as well.

Along with giving more protection to their language and culture, this accord will also give Constitutional and economic safeguard to the Bodos living in Assam.

The other three militant groups came to negotiable terms with the government only after the NDFB agreed for talks. The talks with NDFB in this regard had begun and 2005.

On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Maan Ki Baat programme also appealed to all the rebel groups to shunt the path of violence and agree for initiating talks.

Significantly, it was since 2019, that the Government of India expedited peace talks with Bodo rebel groups.
