New Delhi:With hardly 12 days left for final publication of National Register of Citizen (NRC) in Assam, CM Sarbananda Sonowal said that Home Minister Amit Shah has assured all possible support to maintain law and order in the state.

"Home Minister Amit Shah has assured us of providing all possible help and support," said Assam CM after meeting Shah at North Block on Monday.

His meeting assumes significance following intelligence reports that forces inimical to India might try to create terror in the state during the NRC publication.

Sources in the Home Ministry said that central paramilitary forces from neighbouring states including West Bengal will be deployed in Assam ahead of the NRC publication on August 31.

"We hope that the people of Assam will cooperate this time too like they did during the publication of draft NRC list," said Sonowal.

The Chief Minister said, "If there is any doubt or issues raised over the final NRC...we will work accordingly."

To tackle the post NRC publication scenario, the Assam government is learnt to have submitted a list of secretaries to Home Ministry for the formation of a committee of secretaries.

According to the sources, the committee will deal with the post NRC publication situation. The secretaries include different ministries of the central government as well as from Assam.

Under the observation of the Supreme Court, the government is publishing NRC in Assam to detect illegal foreigners.
